Overview

Raglan sits on the coast in the north Waikato, has power lines that run over steep hills and forest that

deliver power. These were damaged during a thunderstorm on Wed 29 May 2024, and locating the

fault proved to be difficult

The Project

At short notice watercare requested a truck for the removal of sewer from a flooded pumping station
that had no power.
As the situation became more clear, it seemed the power would not come back on any time soon.
At 1am we swapped out one driver for another and a call was made for our recycler to assist.
The recycler arrived and started dealing with the larger stations as generators were running low on
fuel.
The team worked all night and day emptying stations, moving around 300,000l by 6pm on Thursday.
All trucks had enough fuel to keep running without needing to leave town to get more fuel,
everything worked seamlessly.
We had a driver stay in Raglan overnight on call, and another driver swapped with him on Friday
morning, till the situation was stable.
Part of the seamless flow is from having a modern fleet, with both trucks being under 3 years old. The
other part was the attentive way we do maintenance through TPM.
The trucks also complement each other with one being small sized and the other larger but more
powerful and with a larger tank for the bigger stations.
The staff also were keen to help out, with people volunteering to supply the drivers and swap in for
them.
It all makes the unexpected flow smoothly.

The Outcome

  • No break down of Trucks that are being worked hard over a long period of time

  • Resource available to swap drivers

  • The client was very impressed

  • Protecting the environment from sewage spilling into rivers and ocean.
